Overview

Jerrald (“Jerry”) K. Pickering II was a partner with the firm until his retirement in December 2025 and continues to practice with Maire, Powell & Werner on a part-time, of counsel basis.

Mr. Pickering earned his Juris Doctor from McGeorge School of Law. After several years in practice he returned to McGeorge for its graduate law program, earning an LL.M. in Business and Taxation – Transnational Practice. He worked overseas in Taiwan and the People’s Republic of China before returning to the United States.

Mr. Pickering has handled a wide range of matters, including business transactions, complex business litigation, insurance litigation, real estate disputes, construction defect litigation, estate planning, and trust and probate litigation. He has represented public and private clients, including cities and special districts, corporations, individuals, and insurance carriers, and previously served as staff counsel for United States Fidelity & Guaranty. He has tried multiple jury and court trials.

He is admitted to the State Bar of California and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California. He has served as an arbitrator for the State Bar Fee Dispute Arbitration Program and as a Code Enforcement Hearing Officer for Trinity County, and completed the forty-hour Mediating the Litigated Case course at Pepperdine University’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.

Outside of work Mr. Pickering is active in his church, where he has served as Usher Captain, Deacon and Elder; he attends Neighborhood Church in Redding with his wife, Terri. He enjoys the outdoors, including hiking and hunting.
