Jody Michael Burgess is a partner of the firm with a practice emphasis on real property and contract litigation. Mr. Burgess handles a wide variety of property cases including quiet title actions, boundary disputes, easement litigation, inverse condemnation, eminent domain and partition actions. Other areas of practice include prosecuting and defending sellers, buyers, and brokers in matters relating to residential, commercial, and vacant land sale contracts, public entity contract litigation, mobilehome park litigation and litigation relating to mechanic’s lien laws. Mr. Burgess also serves as counsel to a number of private businesses in Shasta, Butte, Tehama and Trinity Counties relating to contract matters and general litigation.
Mr. Burgess received his Bachelor of Science Degree with cum laude honors at California State University of Sacramento in 1998. He was also admitted into the Alpha Phi Sigma and Golden Key National Honor Societies. Mr. Burgess received his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2002. He graduated with distinction and was admitted to the Roger J. Traynor Honor Society.
During law school he participated in the Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General Honors Program, where he worked in the Criminal Appeals and Writs Division.
Mr. Burgess is a member of the State Bar of California, Real Property Law Section; the United States District Court for the Eastern District; the Shasta-Trinity Counties Bar Association; and a past member of the Association of Defense Counsel for Northern California and Nevada. In 2004, Mr. Burgess served as Vice President of the Shasta-Trinity Counties Bar Association.
Mr. Burgess resides in Shasta County with his wife of 10-years, Robyn Pope-Burgess. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, fishing and spending time with his two Labrador retrievers. He is a member of the Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation, Trinity Chapter and a life member of the Shasta County Secret Society of the Rats.
